Welcome to our tech expert interview series, “Inspiring journeys”*, designed to turn the spotlight on the remarkable stories of growth and achievement within the Randstad Digital team. Whether it’s career evolution, exceptional support for other colleagues, or outstanding contributions, this series aims to highlight key milestones and our tech specialists' significant impact on our projects and teams.

We continue our interview series with Sorin, System Debug Product Owner & Tech Lead. Sorin joined us from a role focused on hardware, and as such, he shifted his activity towards software, with a role in testing. Since then, due to his involvement, along with the experience and skills he acquired, he has taken on a leading role. Check out the interview below to find out more about Sorin’s journey.

please share with us about your experience, technologies, and areas of expertise.

I have been involved in automotive projects since I started working for this company, starting as a tester on the Reliability team. I am currently working with automotive IoT systems for car connectivity, CAN protocol, Android for car navigation, scripting; and mostly troubleshooting in all the mentioned areas.

how long have you been on our team? did/ do you have a mentor/ colleague who supported your growth?

I have been with Randstad Digital since September 2021 and during this time I have been growing continuously. If you ask me about mentors, it will be very difficult for me to give you a name. Basically, all my colleagues were my mentors. And they are still mentors. Every day, I have something to learn from every colleague I interact with. In this way, I would like to thank all those who helped me become the colleague I am today, starting from the colleagues who taught me the first steps in this company, who were warm and patient voices in calls, up to colleagues who ask me questions for which I do not know the answer and, in this way, push me to learn something new. We all grow together.

We all grow together, through daily challenges.

what challenges did you face in your project and how did you solve them? and what are some of the achievements or contributions that you are most proud of in your project or team?

Speaking of challenges, they are varied and in different areas. At this moment, as Technical Lead in the System Debug team, they come both in the technical area and in the customer relations area. All challenges are solved with a lot of calmness and a lot of technical documentation. Practically, over time, I learned that any challenge should be divided into tasks, calculated, estimated, and then put into practice.

Maybe that's how we reached, together, of course, the biggest achievement, from my perspective, that of having an increased, solid credibility in front of our client. I think that the System Debug team had a major impact on this, being, moreover, the very proof of this credibility.

what motivates you to keep going and growing?

And, in the end, this is what motivates me to go on: the team I'm part of, with the challenges it brings, with the technologies we have to learn and then master them better and better. I don't think that in this field you can continuously grow if you are not thirsty for knowledge, if you are not curious, and if you do not accept that you can make mistakes. I could never say that what we do is difficult or easy. But I can definitely say that there is also this risk—the risk of making a mistake—and the fact that we can own it, makes us move forward.

we also want to discover what hobbies tech experts have. what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

As for hobbies, I like to occupy my mind with the creation of various devices using Arduino (of course, the easy way) or other development platforms, just for fun. I don't think I can stay away from electronics; even the media content I follow is oriented around this field. And when I'm not doing that, I try some outdoor activities: cycling, fishing, mountain hiking, and visiting some historical ruins (I also like history, I won't deny it).

We reach the end of our interview, pondering Sorin’s perseverance and thirst for knowledge, along with his mindset of both accepting the risk of a mistake and finding opportunities for learning in the most varied circumstances. These turned out to be some important pillars of his career evolution, and thus we are delighted to have Sorin’s perspective in our “Inspiring journeys” campaign.

Many thanks to Sorin for joining us in this series and sharing about his journey so far. We congratulate him on his career evolution and drive for continuous learning.

Sorin F.

system debug product owner & tech lead

I have a work experience in testing and analysis for more than 13 years, all this time more focused in defects/ bugs analysis area. I really enjoy reading articles in media about new technologies, especially in the electronics area most of the time, but not only. As a kid, I always dreamed of growing up and offering the world some things for which I could contribute to the process, in any step from development to production. Now, if I 'm using a car I think there I can find some components, ECU's that meet those criteria. For me it is a joy to work in automotive projects, to combine my job and hobby.
