Welcome to a special edition of our "Inspiring Journeys" interview series, where we spotlight the authentic stories of some of our female colleagues shaping the future of technology.
At Randstad Digital Romania, we believe that Together We Grow, and this applies even more in an equitable and inclusive environment—one where every talent is valued and every voice is heard.
During this month we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, and we are proud to launch this series, sharing the experiences, challenges, and aspirations of women driving innovation in our field.
Today, we invite you to read our interview with Alexandra N., Project Lead, who turned a "mistake" into a lifelong passion for tech. Her story is one of curiosity, resilience, and continuous learning. Let’s dive into her journey!
what inspired you to pursue a career in tech?
I’ve always been fascinated by how technology can solve real-world problems. Since I was a kid, I enjoyed playing and spending time on the computer (Pentium 4 back then) and I was always trying to figure out by myself how things were working. However, the major trigger in my life that led me to a tech career was following a tech license degree, somehow by mistake and by curiosity, despite my initial plan being totally different.
My initial plan was to follow a non-technical university (I did well in math, but I didn't like it) in Bucharest. I intended to sign up for International relations and European studies. Due to a personal moment constraint right after high school graduation, I ended up looking for a university in Sibiu, not in Bucharest anymore. The clock was ticking, and because I needed to reorganize myself quickly, I kind of randomly picked the engineering faculty, thinking that I needed a challenge and a change at the same time in my life (the city change wasn't enough). I was also curious about myself to see if I would get well with all the mathematics and engineering stuff.
So that “mistake” turned into a passion, leading me to study Industrial Engineering and build projects that challenged me. Now, I’m excited to pursue a career in tech because it’s constantly evolving, and I love the challenge of continuous learning and innovation.
can you share a memorable moment or accomplishment in your career that made you proud?
It’s hard to describe a single moment when I was proud and happy about myself, due to every time I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, every time I impacted others, and every time my actions made a difference, I knew I was doing the right thing. I usually am a very dedicated and ambitious person who likes to put all the effort into doing things right.
in a rapidly evolving field, how do you stay curious and continue learning?
In a fast-paced industry like tech, I believe continuous learning is essential. I stay curious by actively exploring emerging technologies, reading industry blogs, and following thought-provoking, inspiring leaders in order to gain fresh perspectives. But for me, the best way to learn is by doing and by getting out of my comfort zone.
if you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice as you started your career in tech, what would it be?/ If you could give a piece of advice to young women aspiring to a career in tech, what would it be?
If I could go back, I’d tell my younger self to embrace challenges and not be afraid of failure. Early on, I hesitated to take risks because I wanted everything to be perfect, being too afraid of failure. But I’ve learned that growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn, and the most successful people are those who keep adapting and pushing forward.
We would like to thank Alexandra for sharing a glimpse of her story with us.
Her journey reminds us that sometimes the right paths are the ones we don’t plan, but rather the ones that we explore with openness as they unfold.
Through curiosity, adaptability, and an eagerness to push boundaries, she has built a career that inspires others to embrace challenges and see mistakes as opportunities.
Alexandra graciously emphasized, through her experience, how important it is to step outside the comfort zone and learn continuously.
Her story highlights our commitment – Together We Grow, proving that growth comes not just from structured career plans but also from seizing unexpected opportunities.
