What happens when thousands of passionate technology professionals come together to explore the future of software engineering? At DevTalks Bucharest 2026, the answer was clear: inspiration, innovation and a shared excitement for what comes next.

Recently, our HR and tech experts team attended one of Eastern Europe's largest technology conferences, joining software engineers, architects, recruiters, technology leaders and innovators from across the industry. Throughout the event, our colleagues explored a wide range of topics, from modern architectures and cloud technologies to DevOps, software quality and emerging AI solutions.

While every stage brought a different perspective, one theme connected almost every conversation: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming an integral part of how we build, test and improve software. More importantly, the discussions were not focused on replacing people, but on empowering them to work smarter, solve complex challenges and create greater value.

We invited our colleagues to share the insights that resonated most with them. Together, their reflections offer an inspiring glimpse into the future of technology and highlight the opportunities ahead for engineers, organizations and anyone passionate about continuous learning, innovation and growth.

from AI assistant to agentic AI.

One of the strongest themes emerging from DevTalks Bucharest 2026 was the evolution of artificial intelligence from a supportive tool to an active participant in the software development lifecycle. Across multiple stages, discussions highlighted a clear shift toward Agentic AI - systems capable of planning, making decisions and executing tasks autonomously to achieve defined objectives.

Cristian M., Software Engineer, observed that the industry is moving beyond the era of AI copilots: "Until recently, most AI tools functioned as copilots: generating code, answering questions or suggesting solutions. Now, the emphasis has shifted toward systems that can plan, make decisions and execute sequences of actions to achieve a goal, rather than just responding to a prompt."

This transformation is already reshaping how software is built. During one of the demonstrations highlighted at the event, an online store was created almost entirely through interactions with an AI system, covering everything from interface adjustments and image modifications to deployment.

As Bogdan M., Software Engineer, noted: "The focus might increasingly shift from writing code to explaining what you want to build. You can describe the objective, the context, and the requirements and the AI can generate and adapt the solution. It is a paradigm shift."

Beyond the demonstrations, the practical applications of Agentic AI are becoming increasingly tangible. Steluta V. highlighted several real-world use cases focused on custom-built assistants, including "Bonjobi", an AI agent designed to support and manage actions executed through the Jenkins platform. These examples demonstrated how autonomous agents can streamline workflows, improve efficiency and allow teams to focus on higher-value activities.

The conversation is no longer about whether AI can support software development, but how autonomous systems will transform the way teams design, build, test and operate digital products.

the evolution of the technical role and how we prepare internally.

The message from DevTalks was clear: as AI takes on more repetitive and operational tasks, engineers have an opportunity to focus on what humans do best—solving complex problems, designing resilient systems and driving innovation. The role of the engineer is evolving alongside it. While coding remains a fundamental skill, the greatest value increasingly comes from understanding complex systems, designing scalable architectures, ensuring security, validating outcomes and guiding AI-powered solutions toward the right business objectives.

This shift was reflected throughout many of the sessions at DevTalks. Rather than focusing solely on code generation, speakers explored how AI can enhance decision-making, automation and operational efficiency across the entire software development lifecycle.

Dorin V., Software Engineer, was particularly interested in the practical applications of AI within testing and quality assurance environments:

"I am interested in how an agent can collect statistical data from testing processes on certain platforms to automatically optimize and reconfigure specific use cases in subsequent tests, based on cost."

His perspective reflects a broader industry trend: moving beyond productivity gains to explore how AI can continuously improve systems, optimize resources and support smarter decision-making.

As technology evolves, so does the need for continuous learning. At Randstad Digital Romania, we are actively investing in the skills that will shape the next generation of software engineering. Many of our colleagues are developing expertise in AI agents through dedicated learning programs, while others are already applying these concepts in practical projects focused on autonomous systems and intelligent automation.

In parallel, several team members are expanding their capabilities within the Claude ecosystem, following specialised learning paths designed to develop AI solution architecture skills.

These initiatives focus on integrating, orchestrating and governing AI agents with existing enterprise architectures to deliver scalable, secure and future-proof solutions for our clients.

adaptability, leadership, and the importance of the human factor.

While artificial intelligence dominated many of the technical discussions at DevTalks, one message stood out just as strongly: technology alone is not enough. As AI continues to reshape the way we work, human qualities such as adaptability, curiosity, communication and leadership are becoming more valuable than ever.

Cristian M., Software Engineer, noted that success in the years ahead will increasingly depend on continuous learning and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing technology landscape. Rather than replacing expertise, AI is raising the bar for professionals who are willing to evolve alongside it.

That commitment to growth was visible throughout the event. Nicoleta C. captured a powerful image of the local technology community: "Seeing people with over 10 years of experience standing or taking notes at sessions on the practical implementation of AI or complex architectures was truly inspirational. This constant appetite for learning shows that the profile of a top specialist in Romania is defined by an innate technical curiosity."

Beyond technical skills, the conversations also explored how leadership is evolving in an AI-driven world. Steluta V. highlighted the growing interest in Hybrid Leadership—a model that combines the speed, automation and analytical capabilities of AI with uniquely human strengths such as empathy, ethics, critical thinking and the courage to make decisions in uncertain situations.

Another recurring theme was the importance of communication and knowledge sharing. Dorin V. reflected on a presentation that demonstrated how even highly technical topics can inspire and engage when delivered with absolute clarity. As technology becomes more complex, the ability to explain ideas, share knowledge and bring people together remains a critical skill for every team and organisation.

At Randstad Digital, we believe the future belongs to professionals who combine technical expertise with continuous learning, adaptability and a collaborative mindset. This human-centric approach to innovation ensures that as we build the autonomous systems of tomorrow, we keep people at the heart of our success.
